RFID News RFID wristbands Mandatory for BHASM AARTI at Mahakaleshwar Temple to prevent fraud

The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling, one of the 12 jyotirlingas attracts a large no. of devotees for Bhasm Aarti, the morning praying rituals and aarti and the temple management committee often finds itself in a bind to regulate the crowd and to ensure a smooth darshan for all the devotees. Keeping the upcoming festival in mind, the Ujjain Mahakal Temple Management Committee has now decided to leverage the RFID technology to manage and regulate the devotees visiting the temple in the early hours, starting 4:00 am.

RFID Wristbands are now mandatory for Bhasm Aarti at Mahakal Temple

Currently, the Mahakaleshar temple management committee allows some 1600 devotees to attend the bhasm aarti in the morning, from 4:00 am to 6:00 am. People can pre-book a slot for the next available day between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm through the official temple website of Sri Mahakaleswar Jyotirling Temple.

To regulate the crowd and to prevent and to ensure transparency and prevent fraud without a valid advanced booked ticket, which costs around 1500INR, the temple management committee has now started offering RFID technology-based wristbands with RFID chips. With the RFID wristbands, which will be given to devotees at the entry, devotees don’t need to show permission passes or anything.

RFID Wristband and Flap Barrier for Entry

The RFID wristband given to devotees with an advanced booked slot for the bhasm aarti contains a microchip that stores their information and tickets as mentioned during the advanced booking process.

There will also be a flap barrier at the entry point which will open only when it detects the RFID wristband on the devotee.

How do RFID Wristbands Work?

RFID is an efficient wireless technology that uses electromagnetic fields to transmit and share information between an RFID tag (transmitter) and an RFID reader (receiver). The RFID wristband contains a small RFID tag (RFID chip and antenna) and the identification and ticketing information can be saved on the microchip.

The RFID reader installed at the entry point interrogates the wristbands on the hands of devotees and gets their valid tickets and information. After confirmation, the flap barrier opens and the devotee is let in through the entry gate.

The RFID wristbands offer a smooth entry and exit during the bhasm aarti and the devotees don’t have to present any pass to anyone. With the wireless wristband, their ticket is automatically verified.

RFID Wristbands at Mahakal Temple Prevent Frauds as well

The move to introduce RFID wristbands for the bhasm aarti also comes due to the fact that some devotees are duped into giving money to frauds for fake tickets. Despite there’s a dedicated portal for people to advance book their slot for bhasm aarti between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm every day, some people are duped by frauds. Some even try to enter without a ticket.

RFID wristbands are provided to devotees at the entry point after verifying their tickets which cost around 1500 INR.

RFID as a technology is being used at India Shrines for they attract a large no. of devotees and RFID is a great tool for crowd management. RFID based access control and ticketing is widely used at sports events, stadiums, music concerts, business events and seminars.
