How Impinj’s M700 RFID Chips Transform RFID Performance?

“Impinj’s M700 series RFID Chips offer great enhancements in RFID applications with high read sensitivity, AutoTune, Cryptographic engine, and large EPC memory.”

As RFID technology proliferates, finding various applications in retail, healthcare and supply chains and logistics, enabling seamless tracking and management of inventory, assets, and goods, the need for reducing the size of the RFID Tag, the size of RFID Chip and boosting the performance and features of RFID tags is felt across the industry. Impinj Inc., which is a global leader in IoT solutions and RAIN RFID solutions, designing RFID Chips and RFID Readers, has played a crucial role in this regard.

Impinj’s Monza Series RAIN RFID ICs (RFID Chips) that were launched in 2005 have been extensively used by various RFID Tag manufacturers over the years. RFID Firms like Avery Dennison, Smartrac, Invengo, HID, etc. have been using Impinj’s Monza chips for designing RFID Tags for various applications.

However, traditional RFID tags have faced challenges in terms of range, accuracy, and speed and Impinj has addressed these limitations with the introduction of the M700 RFID chip.

Let’s delve into the transformative impact of Impinj’s M700 RFID chip on RFID performance in various industries in detail.

Impinj’s M700 RFID Chips

Jeff Dossett, the VP of sales, Impinj says that due to recent advancements in the semiconductor industry, M700 RFID integrated circuits offer advancements in UHF RFID Chip design, a huge step up from Impinj’s older ICs like the Monza series. The new M700 series RFID Chips are designed with a smaller form factor, reducing the digital logic area, and allowing one to add more features to the chip without having to increase the silicon area which would otherwise inflate the cost of RFID Chip and RFID Tags

Dosset claimed that these M700 RFID ICs thus offer more features and advanced performance in item identification and point of Sale (POS) operations in retail and asset tracking applications.

These M700 Chips are available in the following forms:

1.Impinj M730 RAIN RFID tag chips,

2. Impinj M750 RAIN RFID tag chips,

3. Impinj M770 RAIN RFID tag chips,

4. Impinj M775 RAIN RFID tag chips,

5. Impinj M780 RAIN RFID tag chips, and

6. Impinj M781 RAIN RFID tag chips.

Features of M700 Series RFID Chips by Impinj

Enhanced Read Performance of M700 RFID Chips

One of the key advancements brought about by the M700 RFID chip is its remarkable improvement in read performance. The chip's innovative design and signal processing capabilities have significantly extended the read range, allowing for more efficient and accurate data capture.

Thus M700 series chips are particularly useful in large-scale industrial and retail environments, where the ability to read RFID tags at a greater distance has streamlined inventory management and reduced operational costs.

Small Form Factor of Impinj’s M700 RFID ICs

Another great feature of M700 series RFID Chips is the small form factor and as Moore’s law goes, every two years we witness the IC size reduction by half with transistors being doubled in the same IC area. Impinj has successfully minimized the size of RFID Chips and allows for new added features and capabilities in RFID tag performance.

Increased Tag Read Sensitivity in M700 ICs

Impinj’s M700 RFID chip has ushered in a new era of tag sensitivity, enabling the detection of RFID tags in challenging environments where traditional RFID systems often struggle. The chip's enhanced sensitivity with -24dBm Read Sensitivity has proven instrumental in applications such as retail apparel tracking, where densely packed items and varying materials posed obstacles to reliable tag detection. Overcoming these hurdles has allowed the M700 series chips to empower businesses to achieve unprecedented levels of inventory visibility and accuracy.

Advanced Anti-Collision Capabilities

Another area where the M700 RFID chip has made a profound impact is in its anti-collision capabilities. Traditional RFID systems often encountered issues when multiple tags were simultaneously within the read zone, leading to data collision and compromised accuracy. Through advanced algorithms, Impinj’s V2 AutoTune feature, and processing power, the M700 chip has effectively mitigated these challenges, enabling seamless identification and tracking of numerous RFID tags in high-density environments. Such a breakthrough has been pivotal in optimizing supply chain operations and enhancing the overall efficiency of RFID deployments.

Optimized Data Processing for IoT Applications

Impinj's M700 RFID chip has not only elevated read performance and tag sensitivity but has also revolutionized data processing within RFID systems. The chip's embedded intelligence and processing capabilities have enabled real-time data filtering, encryption, and onboard memory storage, reducing reliance on external infrastructure and improving system responsiveness. It has translated into faster and more reliable data capture, making the M700 chip an ideal solution for mission-critical applications where data accuracy and timeliness are paramount.

With EPC memory of 128 bits in M730, M770, M775, M781 and 96 bits in M750, and 496 bits in M780, and Impinj’s omnidirectional reading, the M700 series chips offer great enhancements in RFID and IoT applications.

Finally, Impinj’s M700 RFID chip has undeniably transformed RFID performance by addressing longstanding limitations and ushering in a new era of efficiency and reliability. The chip's enhanced read performance, increased read sensitivity, EPC memory, advanced anti-collision capabilities, omnidirectional scanning, and optimized data processing have collectively revolutionized the way RFID technology is leveraged across diverse industries including retail and healthcare.
